Turning Execution Constraints into Board-Ready Action for Investors and Growth Companies

About Momentum

Momentum Advisors is an execution capacity advisory firm serving lower-middle-market investors, portfolio leaders, founder-led companies, and growth-minded businesses. The premise of the firm is that most companies do not struggle because the strategy is wrong — they struggle because the business does not have the capacity to carry the plan. Decisions move too slowly. Roles overlap. Leaders operate from different assumptions. Critical handoffs break down. Key roles stay open too long.

Momentum helps leadership teams and investors see where execution is getting stuck, prioritize the few moves that matter most, and build the leadership capacity, decision architecture, management infrastructure, and critical role flow required to move the plan forward.

Jamie O'Brien serves on Momentum's leadership team as Head of Leadership Performance, leading the firm's leadership performance practice in a fractional capacity. He helps client organizations assess, strengthen, and develop the leaders responsible for execution — delivering leadership assessments, advising executives on development priorities, and translating leadership insight into practical action. He also shapes Momentum's leadership advisory capabilities and methodologies.

The MIQ Index

The MIQ Index is Momentum's proprietary diagnostic framework and software. It shows whether a business has the leadership capacity, structural design, operating behaviors, and workforce systems required to execute its plan, and it answers three practical questions: where are we today, what is constraining progress, and what do we do first.

The diagnostic works through five execution lenses — leadership capability and capacity; organizational design and execution architecture; organizational behaviors and change readiness; workforce optimization; and capability and critical role flow. What it produces is not a generic assessment report. It is a scorecard, a ranked constraint map, a leadership readout, the three to five moves most likely to improve execution, and a sequenced action plan with owners and timing.

For leadership development work, this matters. Coaching and development priorities can be tied to identified business constraints rather than to a general competency model, and their effect can be tracked with the same discipline applied to any other operating initiative.

The 90-Day Deal Return Sprint

Momentum's flagship engagement gives sponsors and portfolio leaders a clear view of what is slowing execution and what to do about it. Across ninety days, the team assesses leadership, structural design, decision architecture, operating behaviors, management infrastructure, and capability constraints, then translates the findings into a board-ready action plan with priorities, owners, and sequencing — followed by support to execute it.

Leadership assessment and leadership development sit inside that sprint. When the diagnostic surfaces a leadership constraint, the response is not a recommendation left on the table. It is coaching, assessment, and advisory support delivered against a defined business priority.

Capabilities and Critical Role Delivery

Momentum works across five capability areas: leadership execution readiness, organizational design and execution architecture, organizational behaviors, workforce optimization, and capability and critical role delivery. The firm starts with the business constraint rather than with a category of work, so the engagement follows whatever is actually slowing the company down.

Where that constraint is an open or poorly defined critical role, Momentum closes it through Intalegence, its talent delivery arm, which handles retained search, embedded recruiting, and specialized hiring. Diagnosis and delivery sit under one roof — most advisory firms identify the gap and leave the client to solve it.

What This Means for You

When your organization's challenge sits at the intersection of individual leadership effectiveness and the wider conditions that shape execution, this affiliation creates a path from coaching one leader to addressing the structural, behavioral, and talent factors surrounding them. Whether you need to understand why a capable leadership team is moving slowly, redesign the organization for greater speed, close a critical role, or measure whether leadership investment is changing business outcomes, we can bring Momentum's full capabilities to bear — with the trust and continuity of working with a coach who already understands your context.
